Hatchet 3 is the horror film of 2013 in the Hatchet series. It follows the story of Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures and his rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film stars Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow, and Rileah Vanderbilt in the role of Misty.
The movie's special effects are its greatest strength. Hatchet 3 uses a lot less CG effects than other horror films. This allows some truly terrifying moments to be captured throughout the film.
The cast is solid and the lead actor Kane Hodder proving to be an formidable villain. The dialogue is hilarious and cheeky that it can be like a classic 1980s horror film. There are also certain moments of genuine comedy throughout, which provide a comical contrast against all of the gut-wrenching action on screen.
However, due to the limited budget (reportedly only $1 million) many of the locations are re-used from earlier films in the series--the identical boat house was featured twice in the film and much of it appears to be a re-use from other films in this franchise. Hatchet or Hatchet2 may feel the film is familiar.
Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous installments in the series. (click now to read blogs) It also provided plenty of gory thrills and entertaining performances from the actors.
